Students will create their own unique hat using a “recipe” which includes multiple sizes and many charted designs. Knitting corrugated ribbing and decorative hat crowns (designing them, too!), and color theory are skills that will be taught in class.
Students will have taken our Fair Isle Headband class or will have equivalent working knowledge of knitting stranded colorwork using two colors per row.
Students should be very comfortable with a method of circular knitting and decreasing: circular needles, double-pointed needles, 2 circular needles at a time, or Magic Loop method.
* Berroco Ultra Wool Fine: 2 - 25g balls of one color if the background will be knit with one color.
1 25g ball PER COLOR for the designs.
Lots of color is usually desired, so 3-5 colors would be great!
* #2.5 or #3 - 16” circular needles, or long circular needles if knitting with a different method
* #4 - 16” circular needles, or long circular needles if knitting with a different method
* #4 double-pointed needles, circular needles, or long circular needles if knitting with a different method
If the chosen hat is for a baby or child, the needle length will need to be shorter, or DPN’s will be used throughout.
* Stitch markers
* Knitting darning needle
6 stitches/inch, in stockinette stitch on #4 needles, unblocked. This is for the swatch only. The stranded knitting will have a smaller gauge.
